When customers ask for 2D PVC patches or 3D PVC patches, the main difference is not the material—it is how the design is moulded. Both are usually made from flexible PVC rubber, but the surface structure changes how logos, lettering, mascots and decorative details appear and feel.
What is a 2D PVC patch?
A 2D PVC patch uses clearly separated flat levels. Think of each colour area as a clean moulded layer with defined boundaries. This makes 2D construction a strong choice for logos, simple icons, bold lettering, geometric artwork and designs where accurate colour separation matters more than rounded depth.
Because the surfaces are flatter, small text and crisp shapes can often read more clearly than they would in a heavily sculpted design. A 2D patch can still have visible depth at the border and between colour levels; “2D” does not mean printed or paper-flat.
What is a 3D PVC patch?
A 3D PVC patch uses rounded, raised or recessed moulding to create a sculpted surface. It works well for character faces, rounded lettering, dimensional symbols, textured elements and designs that benefit from a tactile finish. Light catches the raised areas differently, which can make the patch feel more premium and visually substantial.
Very fine details sometimes need to be simplified so they can be moulded cleanly. The finished design should always be planned around the physical patch size rather than copying every tiny detail from a large digital image.

Which construction works best for a rubber logo patch?
For a rubber logo patch, start with the shape and the smallest important details. Corporate marks with sharp lettering usually work well with controlled 2D levels. Mascot logos, outdoor graphics and expressive illustrations can benefit from selected 3D moulding. Your patch does not need to be completely 2D or completely 3D.
